An employee of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) fell off a container stacked on a boat last night docked at Male' Commercial Harbour – dislocating the right elbow in the process.

The incident took place around 21:30 last night.

MPL’s Spokesperson Dhaanish Nizam had detailed to Sun that the employee had fallen off the container while trying to install a container spreader on the container. The boat had rolled while the employee was doing this – following which the container spreader had hit the employee causing the employee to slip and fall on top of another container.

Dhaanish also added the employee was equipped with the necessary safety gears at the time of the incident.

“The employee fell from a distance of 10 feet. Was taken to the hospital within 15 minutes. At the time of the incident, the employee was equipped with the necessary safety gears from helmet, safety shoes, and vest,”

The employee is currently being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital.
