Airlines, destinations tourists arrive to Maldives from exceed pre-pandemic numbers

Airlines operating to the Maldives and the countries and destinations from which tourist arrivals are recorded to the Maldives have increased in comparison to pre-pandemic numbers.

Statistics publicized by Velana International Airport show that countries from which tourist arrivals were recorded to the Maldives stood at 19 in 2019 – whereas it currently stands at 25, making a 32% increase.

Additionally, destinations from which tourist arrivals were recorded to the Maldives stool at 35 in 2019 – whereas the number currently stands at 39. This is an increase of 11%.

Airlines operating to the Maldives have increased by 6% compared to pre-pandemic numbers. While 34 airlines were operating to the Maldives in 2019 – the number of airlines now operating stands at 36.

Changes have been observed in the top source markets to the Maldives post-pandemic as well. These changes include the addition of new countries to the top 10 list – mostly to include Eastern European countries and Middle East countries.
