STELCO successfully synchronizes powerhouses in Male’, Hulhumale’

State Electric Company (STELCO) on early Monday morning marked the successful synchronization of its powerhouses in Male’ City and suburban Hulhumale’ via the Greater Male’ Grid.

STELCO described the successful synchronization as a landmark achievement.

“Power can now be provided from Male’ to Hulhumale’, and from Hulhumale’ to Male’,” said STELCO.

STELCO said it has taken a completely new step in the energy industry with its Greater Male’ Grid.

“In Sha Allah, this grid will allow us to further improve the quality of services we provide, and benefit the people,” said STELCO.

The company has thanked all its employees for working tirelessly day and night to successfully complete the project.

Environment, Climate Change and Technology Ministry has congratulated STELCO on its landmark achievement. The ministry noted that the successful power interconnection between Male' and Hulhumale' will provide immediate relief to the capacity shortage in Male', and also opens up possibility for more Solar PV penetration.

The Greater Male’ Grid links the power network in Male’, Hulhumale’ and Hulhule’ with two 7-kilometer 132 KV circuits. STELCO has also installed four 95 MVA transformers in Male’ and Hulhumale’, and two 8 MVA transformers in Hulhule’ under the project.

Each circuit has the capacity to generate 100 megawatts of power.
