Sh. Foakaidhoo has been placed under monitoring mechanisms subsequent to recording a positive case.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) stated that they ordered monitoring mechanisms in order to conduct contact tracing and test contacts.
Travel in and out of the island has also been temporarily suspended by HPA until further notice.
President of Foakaidhoo Council Ahmed Asif confirmed to Sun that the person who tested positive is a woman who consulted at the health center yesterday evening.
“The woman is known to have been living on this island – so this must be a random case,” he added.
Asif further detailed that health authorities have now begun conducting random sampling on the island following the case – adding that 46 samples are planned to be taken solely tonight.
The Council has also instructed inhabitants to confine to their homes and to only go outside for necessities. Additionally, they have also advised all to strictly follow all the precautionary matters recommended by health authorities against the virus.
At present, 66 people are undergoing quarantine at 33 houses in Foakaidhoo.
