Thinadhoo begins easing COVID-19 restrictions

The local council has begun easing restrictions imposed in the populous GDh. Thinadhoo to curb the spread of COVID-19.

Thinadhoo Council announced they have decided to ease restrictions in Thinadhoo for one week, starting this Sunday. The council’s decision follows progress in controlling COVID-19 cases in the island.

Council announced that as part of the new easements, people will be allowed out with time-bound permits issued by the police.

Meanwhile, people who wish to exercise will be allowed go out for exercise between 05:30-6:30 hours without a permit.

And starting Isha prayer this Sunday, mosques will be allowed to reopen for congregational prayers with social distancing. Worshippers will not require permits to go to mosques 15 minutes to azan, or to return home within 15 minutes after completing prayer.

Thinadhoo Council said that shops will be allowed to reopen following inspection by Thinadhoo Emergency Operations Center starting July 14, and fishing vessels have been allowed to go fishing with a special permit from the council.

Thinadhoo has 845 confirmed COVID-19 cases.  The island has 218 active cases, including 15 new cases recorded last Saturday. Two people have died from COVID-19 related complications.
