Kooddoo Fisheries Complex has suspended the distribution of ice to fishermen following a surge in COVID-19 cases among workers at the facility.

Kooddoo said that multiple workers in the jetty, cold storage and collector boats have tested positive for COVID-19, and many more have been placed under isolation, resulting in disruptions to their fish purchase and ice distribution operations.

They said that starting this Tuesday, ice will no longer be distributed to fishermen from the complex.

“Fish weighing operations will be conducted at the Kooddoo outer jetty, at Maha Kalaminja, and the collector boats operating in Huvadhoo Atoll alone,” said the company.

The latest statistics show there are 76 people quarantined in Kooddoo.

Kooddoo has 90 confirmed COVID-19 cases; 17 Maldivians and 73 expatriates. 25 of them have recovered, and the number of active cases stands at 65.

81 percent of workers at Kooddoo have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, but only 14 percent have been fully vaccinated.
