It has been announced that Speaker of the Parliament, former President Mohamed Nasheed will be taking part in the first ‘V20 Climates Vulnerable Summit’ that is held amongst the Finance Ministers of the countries most financially vulnerable due to climate change.
This is the first international event Nasheed is taking part in since he was attacked in a bomb blast back on May 6.
Nasheed is the Founding Chair and Thematic Ambassador for Ambition of Climate Vulnerable Forum (CVF). He will be taking part in this event as Co-Chair.
The event that is being hosted by the Bangladeshi government is scheduled to be held on July 8, virtually. It will be inaugurated by Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister and the Chair of CVF, Sheikh Hasina.
This summit is the first of its kind to held amongst the countries which will be financially most vulnerable due to climate changes.
Heads of state from and Finance Ministers of 48 states in the V20 will be featured in this event. Representatives from G7 and G20 will also take part in the event, Additionally, international organizations and NGOs will also take part,
The purpose of holding this event is to mobilize significantly more robust economic and finance responses to the spiraling dual crises that increasingly affect the world’s most vulnerable economies prior to the upcoming UNFCCC COP26 and global climate finance set to be held at Glasgow, Scotland. After the summit, the V20 will issue a Communique highlighting expectations on the upcoming UNFCCC COP26 and global climate finance.
