The government has decided to allow recovered COVID-19 patients to travel without quarantining subject to the condition that two months have not passed since they have recovered. The decision will come into effect starting from July 1.

This decision was announced by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during a press conference held this evening to announce the easements to COVID-19 restrictions currently in place.

“Patients recovering from COVID-19 will be allowed to travel without having quarantining within a timeframe of 60 days from their recovery,” he said.

While authorities had previously decided to allow intra-travel without quarantining for those who have completed both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, the decision was withdrawn when the Maldives observed an alarming surge in COVID-19 cases last April and May.

Although the easement has been made for recovered COVID-19 patients to travel without quarantining, no travel easements was announced to those who have completed both doses of the vaccine, like before.

Other easements announced today include decreasing the curfew hours in Male’ Area in addition to permitting residents to go out without police-issued permits during non-curfew hours. Restaurants and cafes in Male’ area will also be reopened for dine-in services during non-curfew hours.
