National airline, Maldivian has announced its flights between Maldives and Bangladeshi capital Dhaka will remain suspended until July 15.
Maldivian suspended its Dhaka flights on May 4, and had been scheduled to resume the flights on July 1.
However, the airline said in an announcement on Monday afternoon that the flights will remain suspended until July 15.
Maldivian halted its Dhaka flights following the decision of the Bangladeshi government to suspend all passenger flights between Maldives and Bangladesh in an effort to curb an alarming surge in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Bangladesh is set to enter a strict nation-wide lockdown on Thursday to curb the deadly surge in COVID-19 cases – fueled by the highly contagious Delta variant. The country reported 119 deaths on Sunday, its highest-ever daily death toll.
