27-year-old arrested for young boy’s murder jailed pending outcome of trial

The court has ordered for one of the suspects arrested for the kidnapping and murder of a 13-year-old boy in the Maldivian capital to be jailed pending the outcome of the trial.

The young boy was reported missing by his family on Sunday, prompting the police to investigate the case as a possible kidnapping.

His body was found in a suitcase in the shallow waters off Hulhumale’ Phase II at 02:38 am this Tuesday.

Police have made two arrests in connection to the case; a 17-year-old Maldivian male and a 27-year-old Maldivian male.

They were presented before the court for their remand hearing this Tuesday.

Police said the court granted remand pending the outcome of the trial for the 27-year-old, and remand for 15 days for the 17-year-old.

Police have stated they have made significant progress in the case. They are also seeking an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
