Maldives records 4 new COVID-19 fatalities, including 28-year-old

Health Protection Agency (HPA) confirms four COVID-19 patients died on early Saturday, including a 28-year-old woman.

The first fatality was a 64-year-old Maldivian woman admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility. She passed away at 12:42 am.

The second fatality was a 79-year-old Maldivian woman admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility. She passed away minutes later, at 12:52 am.

The third fatality was a 28-year-old Maldivian woman admitted at Dharumavantha Hospital (DH11).  She passed away at 04:19 am.

The fourth fatality was a 68-year-old Maldivian woman admitted at Hulhumale’ Medical Facility. She passed away at 07:17 am.

With the four new cases this Saturday, COVID-19 fatalities in Maldives now stands at 182.

Maldives has been experiencing a surge in both infection rate and fatalities in recent weeks.

Last May saw the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities in a single month, with 88 deaths.

Maldives has 66,948 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 432 new cases recorded on Saturday. 45,730 patients have since recovered.

The country currently has 21,032 active cases. 213 of the patients are hospitalized.

The surge in cases has prompted health authorities to tighten restrictions, both in the populous Male’ City area and other residential areas with confirmed COVID-19 cases.
