Service charge benefits of 7 Maldivian resorts in excess of USD 1,000

Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi.

Seven resorts in the Maldives paid employees more than USD 1,000 as service charge in the month of May. 

Resort Workers Maldives disclosed information related to the service charge amounts of some of the biggest resort names in the Maldives including Velaa Private Island and Waldorf Astoria. 

According to the organization, Velaa Private Island paid USD 1,660.03 (MVR 25,597.66) as service charges while Waldorf Astoria Ithaafushi paid USD 1,486.33 (MVR 22,919.20). 

Cheval Blanc Randheli paid USD 1,380.31 (MVR 21,284.38). Joali Maldives paid USD 1,141.31 (MVR 17,599.02). The Nautilus Maldives also paid USD 1,060.91 (MVR 16,395.23) while One and Only Reethi Rah paid USD 1,050 (MVR 16,191) as services charges. 

Resort Workers Maldives disclosed information related to 32 resorts in the Maldives. According to the information, Hideaway Beach Resort and Spa paid its employees the lowest amount as service charges with USD 246 (MVR 3,793.32). 

After charges were brought to the employment laws in the Maldives, 10 percent of service charges are collected from services at resorts. The service charge is to be equally divided among employees. 

The service charges are to be distributed before the end of the next month and discrimination among employees is disallowed.
