COVID-19: Maldives records 1,187 new cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA), on Wednesday, announced 1,187additional cases of COVID-19, increasing confirmed cases in Maldives to 48,608.

According to HPA, the 1,187 new cases include; 965 cases from the greater Male’ region, 214 cases from residential islands outside Male’, 6 cases from operational resorts, and 2 cases from liveaboards.

HPA said that of the 1,187 new cases reported on Wednesday, 438 cases are positive cases from samples collected between 6pm of 18th May and 6pm of 19th May, while the remaining 749 cases are backlog samples.

Meanwhile, 558 additional COVID-19 patients were confirmed to have made full recoveries over the last 24 hours, increasing total recoveries to 29,644.

With the new developments, Maldives now has 18,843 active cases.

There are 274 patients in hospitals.

3,771 samples have been tested for COVID-19 over the last 24-hours.

With the 1,187 new infections this Wednesday, 8,516 people have tested positive over the last one-week period.

May 15: 1,007 cases

May 14: 1,467 cases

May 13: 1,216 cases

112 COVID-19 patients have died from complications.
