Maldives’ COVID-19 death toll rises to 104

Health Protection Agency (HPA) announced on Tuesday that a patient admitted to Dharumavantha Hospital in Male’ has passed away.

HPA identified the deceased as a 73-year-old Maldivian female.

She was being treated at the DH11 - the ICU designated for COVID-19 patients - in Dharumavantha Hospital.

She was declared dead at 12:10 pm.

“This is the 104th COVID-19 death in the Maldives,” announced HPA.

Maldives has been experiencing a surge in both infection rate and fatalities in recent weeks.

This May has seen the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities in Maldives, with 31 deaths.

Maldives has 45,956 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 1,433 new cases recorded on Monday. 28,849 patients have since recovered.

The country currently has 16,997 active cases. 268 of the patients are hospitalized.
