Terror attack key suspect apprehended based on information from public

Maldives Police Service has stated that the prime suspect in the terrorist attack targeting former President Mohamed Nasheed last Thursday was apprehended based on the information received from an anonymous member of the public. 

Adhuham Ahmed Rasheed, believed to be the person to detonate the IED wounding Nasheed, was arrested in the early hours of today by Police in his residence in Hulhumale'. Police had appealed to the public for information related to the blast. 

In a press conference today, police showed video footage of Adhuham's movements a short while before the attack. 

Adhuham is seen talking on the phone inside the Athama Palace located in front of the location of the IED, before the blast. He is seen leaning against the wall. 

Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohamed Riyaz said today that the footprint from the wall and the footprint taken from Adhuham after he was arrested today matched.

Apart from Adhuham, two others have been arrested for Thursday night's bombing. They are named Mujaaz Ahmed and Thahumeen Ahmed. 

Police also confirmed that Adhuham met with Mujaaz after the blast. Police had previously said that Mujaaz was directly involved with the attacker. 

Thahumeen is the owner of the motorcycle to which the IED was attached to. Police said today that attempts were made to falsify the registry number of the motorcycle before the blast. Despite the attempts, police had managed to gain the correct information related to the registry. 

Police also said today that Adhuham had criminal records by did not go into further details. All three have been remanded to 15 days by the Criminal Court.
