Hospital says ex-President Nasheed is in critical condition

The ADK Hospital has stated that ex-President and current Speaker of the Parliament Mohamed Nasheed who was wounded in a terror attack near his residence last night, is in critical condition and in intensive care.

The hospital stated today that Nasheed underwent a final critical, life-saving procedure earlier this afternoon. 

"Over the course of (the) past 16 hours he had life-saving surgery on injuries to his head, chest, abdomen, and limbs. He remains in a critical condition in intensive care," read a tweet from the hospital.

Nasheed's family has also stated that the final surgery carried out on him has been completed successfully. 

Nasheed's younger brother Nazim Abdul Sattar tweeted today that the surgery on Nasheed was now complete.

"Now it’s the long road to recovery," said Nazim on Twitter before thanking the ADK Hospital and its team attending his brother. 

A team of multi-specialty doctors are attending to the ex-president after he was targetted by an explosion near his residence last night. Nasheed was taken to the hospital around 20:30 last night after the attack.

Police are investigating the attack as a terror attack and have so far noticed four persons of interest related to the attack.
