2 arrested for kidnap and rape of woman in Male’

Two suspects have been arrested for kidnapping a woman as she walked in a street in Male’ City and raping her.

The police identified the suspects in the case as an 18-year-old Maldivian male and a 23-year-old Maldivian male.

The 18-year-old has a record of three prior arrests while the 23-year-old has a record of four prior arrests.

They were remanded to a custodial jail for five days when presented before the Criminal Court for their remand hearing on Saturday, citing that the police submitted adequate evidence to substantiate the allegations.

The two suspects are accused of assault, kidnapping and engaging in forcible sexual relations.

The case is under further investigation by the police.
