Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has departed to India on an official visit.
The Foreign Ministry stated that the visit would be from April 15 to 16th. During the visit, Foreign Minister Shahid will meet with Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar where multilateral and bilateral discussions will take place.
The Ministry also added that the visit will increase bonds between the two close nations and discussions would also be held on a number of infrastructure development projects run by India in the Maldives.
India is currently funding numerous projects in the Maldives including projects funded through the Line of Credit between the two nations. These projects include the Thilamale' Bridge, housing units in the Male' area as well as development projects of the Gan International Airport and Hanimaadhoo International Airport.
India has also assisted the Maldives during the pandemic with the donation of two 100,000 doses of Covishield vaccine, the vaccine developed by Astrazeneca and Oxford University which is manufactured in India. Despite halts in the supply of vaccines by India to other nations, the halts have not affected the supply of vaccinations to the Maldives.
