President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the ventilator scandal would not create a rift between him and his long-time friend, political ally, and former President Mohamed Nasheed who is the current Speaker of the Parliament.

The President’s remarks come after Speaker Mohamed Nasheed admitted in a press conference yesterday that there were issues of contention between the two. President Solih, in a separate presser today, said that the two always had a difference of opinion.

“A ventilator cannot come in between us,” said President Solih who added that des0pite the differences, they would never do something that could jeopardize and risk the nation and the party.

The President further went on to state that MDP, the party he and Nasheed belong to, was always the party that gave leeway to a difference of opinion and said that it would be how the party would be conducted in the future as well.

Speaker Nasheed who grew up with President Solih, and are childhood friends, said yesterday that party members did not wish for acts of corruption to be carried out from the party so brazenly.

The ventilator scandal involved gross misconduct by the Health Ministry in its bid to procure ventilators to increase the health capacity of the nation at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Much controversy has been caused from the scandal.
