Nasheed: I am not unable to solve problems facing Male’, can be done tomorrow itself

Parliament Speaker and leader of MDP, former President Mohamed Nasheed said on Monday that he knows how to solve the problems facing the congested Maldivian capital, and that it is not something he is unable to do.

Speaking during MDP’s Rahvehi Fathis campaign event in Galolhu district on Monday, Nasheed said that former Male’ City mayors as well as future Male’ City mayors need to work together to solve the problems facing the capital.

He said that the Male’ City Council needs to establish different Boards, co-own businesses, become responsible for debt, and issue its own treasury bonds in order to solve the problems.

Nasheed said that the problems facing Male’ City can be solved by MDP, and that he had been promising the residents of Male’ every day since he began his political career because he is capable of solving the problems.

“Its not something I am unable to do. Its something I am well aware of. Its something I know how to do. Its something I can do. Its something I can do by starting to work on it tomorrow itself,” he said.

Nasheed said that he needs the Male’ City Council in order to get it done, and asked for the people to vote for MDP.

“I am doing to get this done. I have been promising that to the residents of Male’ at least once a day since I began my political career. Today, I am not ready to walk away saying that Male’ residents cannot get land, that the government did this or that. I am not ready to give up and go back home,” he said.
