Amendments to the taxi regulations of the Maldives have been brought so that drivers are no longer permitted to play music inside their taxis without the consent of their passengers.

The amendment was published on the gazette today and stipulates that apart from communication equipment inside a taxi, drivers are not to play any other sound equipment without the consent of the passengers inside the taxi at the time.

The equipment includes radios, music sets and disallows the use of such equipment.

The regulation also stipulates that a communication system permitted by the Transport Authority should be established in the taxi. The communication system is to be used for respectable language.
