Maldives records over 307,000 tourist arrivals in Q1

Statistics released by Tourism Ministry show Maldives recorded 307,543 tourist arrivals from the beginning of January to the end of March this year.

According to tourist arrival statistics released by Tourism Ministry, Maldives recorded 92,103 visitors in January, 96,882 visitors in February, and 109,585 visitors in March.

The highest daily tourist arrivals this year was recorded on March 26, with 5,516 arrivals.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on the tourism industry – Maldives’ main economic driver. There are 30 international airlines operating to Maldives, as the global travel and tourism industry recovers from the shock and resumes normal operations.

The top source markets for tourist arrivals to Maldives this year are India, Russia, Ukraine, Germany, and Kazakhstan.

Statistics show Maldives recorded 311,546 tourist arrivals by the end of April 2. Experts say the Maldivian tourism industry is rebounding faster than expected, and Tourism Ministry is targeting 1.5 million tourist arrivals this year.
