Thoddoo MP Shiyan tests positive for COVID-19

The parliamentary representative for the Thoddoo constituency, Hassan Shiyan has tested positive for COVID-19.

Shiyan told Sun he contracted COVID-19 after he had direct contact with a positive case within his home.

He said that he found out he contracted COVID-19 after he went to the flu clinic and got tested after he developed flu symptoms.

He is now in home quarantine.

“The people who I had contact with after that tested negative,” he said.

Three parliamentarians have recently tested positive for COVID-19; Shiyan, Central Henveiru MP Ali Azim, and Naifaru MP Ahmed Shiyam. Azim has since recovered and resumed his duties at the Parliament.

It is unclear whether any other parliamentarians were quarantined in connection to any of the cases.

Maldives is experiencing its third COVID-19 surge and has 23,403 confirmed cases, including 166 new cases on Saturday. 20,618 people have since recovered, while 66 have died from complications. The country currently has 2,712 active cases.
