3 more islands placed under monitoring mechanisms

The islands of GA. Vilingili, K. Huraa and R. Maduvvari have all been placed under monitoring mechanisms. 

The islands were placed under monitoring mechanisms after COVID-19 cases were detected on the island.

Maduvvari Council President Sobeeh Mohamed said to Sun that the island was placed under monitoring after an individual in home-quarantine, after traveling to the island of R. Ungoofaaru tested positive for the virus. 

"We are informed that just one tested positive. We just got word. There are many in quarantine. Because of the holiday week in March, many traveled," said Sobeeh. 

Ungoofaaru is home to the regional hospital and is frequented by people traveling for health purposes mainly from the central region of the nation. Lh. Naifaru and K. Dhiffushi are also under monitoring mechanisms after people from the islands traveled to Ungoofaaru for healthcare, and returned to test positive for the virus. 

K. Huraa was brought under mechanisms last night. Council President Easa Ahmed said that the positive case from the island is an elderly who was transported to Male' City for medical care and tested positive for the virus. 

"After tests were conducted, the individual tested positive. Came into contact with a lot. Some are in quarantine. The family of the individual is in quarantine. Random samples are also being collected," said Easa. 

A total of 14 are in quarantine. Samples have been collected from all of them while 120 random samples were also collected from the island.

Vilingili was brought under monitoring mechanisms after an employee of WAMCO who traveled to the island under special permissions tested positive for the virus. 

GA. Atoll Council President Ibrahim Fuad said that two people were in contact with the employee of WAMCO. Samples were collected from the two for testing, according to Fuad. 

Currently, islands under monitoring mechanisms apart from Maduvvari, Vilingili, and Huraa are N. Lhohi, Dh. Meedhoo, ADh. Fenfushi, AA. Thoddoo, F. Nilandhoo, Lh. Naifaru, K. Dhiffushi and Dh. Kudahuvadhoo.
