Monitoring mechanisms on Addu City lifted

After more than a month, authorities have finally revoked monitoring mechanisms placed on the southern city of Addu, due to COVID-19. 

The city with a population that is the second biggest in the nation, was placed under monitoring mechanisms on February 6 after the discovery of COVID-19 cases. 

Director-General of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakuru, in an order issued last night, said that there was no further reason to keep the southern city under mechanisms. 

All random samples collected from the city have tested negative before the measures were lifted. 

According to statistics published by the city council, the city had confirmed 92 cases of the virus from 4,889 samples collected. 86 individuals have recovered from the virus and now there are just six active cases in the city.
