Bank of Maldives (BML) has provided assistance to more than 100 islands across the country through sponsorships and community development projects carried out in 2020.
Sustainability reports of the bank published show that the company’s projects were carried out in various different fields. Under the CSR initiative of the bank, the company had remained committed to conducting such projects even during the 2020 pandemic situation in the nation.
The bank provided assistance to 20 islands for projects worth MVR 1 million. This includes the development of parks, classrooms in schools, gyms, nature parks as well as solar-powered lighting systems in islands.
The bank also provided PPEs to 10hospitals across the nation. Looking at assistance by the bank to individual NGOs, the bank donated MVR 150,000 to the Cancer Society to create awareness of breast cancer. BML also provided MVR 200,000 to the aid program of ARC. Under the aid, 587 children of 300 families were provided food packages.
BML also donated MVR 50,000 to the Family Legal Clinic and MVR 30,00 to the Deaf Association.
In the field of education, BML facilitated in making arrangements for online classes of the computer lab of the Kudakudhinge Hiyaa. The bank donated equipment to upgrade the lab.
BML also provided assistance to more than 300 children who have special educational needs in 10 schools.
In the atolls, BML established self-service ATMs in nine islands and transformed ATM centers in five islands to self-service ATMs. The network of cash agents of the bank was also expanded in 2020 with the introduction of 200 new cash agents in different islands.
