Schools in Male’ switch to online classes from LKG to Grade 8

Education Ministry has made the decision to switch to online classes for students enrolled in LKG to Grade 8 in schools in the greater Male’ region as a safety measures amid a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Schools in the region had held online classes for students enrolled in Grade 1 to 8 from February 15 to 18.

Deputy Education Minister Ahmed Mujahid told Sun this Saturday that for the two-week period starting February 28, schools in the greater Male’ region will conduct online classes for students from LKG to Grade 8.

Education Ministry said the decision was made at the request of Health Protection Agency (HPA), due to the continued surge in COVID-19 cases in the capital despite the existing measures.

Schools in greater Male’ region reopened with safety measures on January 10.

Maldives has confirmed 19,479 COVID-19 cases, including 133 new cases recorded on Friday - 117 of them from the greater Male' region. 17,002 patients have since recovered, while 61 have dies from complications.

The country currently has 2,410 active cases. 162 of the patients are hospitalized.
