Ali Azim told Sun he submitted the motion with the signature of 14 parliamentarians.
The move to oust Maleeh – who was appointed a minister on a slot to government coalition partner Jumhoory Party (JP) – comes after repeated allegations from MDP parliamentarians against Maleeh of failure to uphold his duties.
Parliament’s regulations require signatures from minimum 10 parliamentarians to submit a no-confidence motion against an incumbent Cabinet minister. The passage of the motion will require a majority vote, meaning votes from at least 43 parliamentarians.
MDP holds a supermajority at the Parliament with 65 seats.
