A COVID-19 patient receiving treatment in the G. A. Vilingili facility has passed away.
Sources have confirmed that the patient was a 77-year old Maldivian male. He is connected with the Dhevvadhoo cluster of cases and was transported for treatment to Vilingili on January 13. The patient has been named Thuhthu Ibrahim from Uthuruge, G. A. Dhevvadhoo.
G. A. Atoll Hospital Manager Shareef Ahmed stated to Sun that the patient had been bed-ridden for almost 15 years. He was receiving treatment through a ventilator after he was transported to the facility. Shareef added that the virus had affected the lungs of the patient very badly.
This is the 56th virus-related death in the Maldives and is the first confirmed death from the virus outside of the capital Male' City. The Maldives has so far confirmed 16,909 cases of the virus and currently has 2,075 active cases of the virus.
