Visit Maldives has launched a joint marketing campaign with MakeMyTrip – one of India’s top online travel agencies.

According to Visit Maldives, the three-month long campaign targeting potential travellers from India will focus on creating destination awareness by highlighting stringent health and safety measures in place in Maldives, and the scattered geographical disposition of islands – making it a safer choice for travellers.

Visit Maldives said MakeMyTrip is India’s largest online travel agency, with a customer base of over 42 million.

The new campaign targetting travellers from India comes after Visit Maldives launched a similar campaign with another top Indian travel agency - Thomas Cook India - in January.

India is a key source market for tourist arrivals to Maldives. The country was the top source market for tourist arrivals in 2020, and the second top source market tourist arrivals this year.

62,960 Indian tourists visited Maldives last year, and 19,503 have visited Maldives so far this year.

Four Indian airlines operate between Maldives and Indian cities.
