Dhevvadhoo cluster: 2 from Dhaandhoo, 1 from Villingili test positive

Positive cases of COVID-19 have been identified from the southern islands of G. A. Dhaandhoo and G. A. Vilingili after an individual from the island of G. A. Dhevvadhoo where a community spread of the virus is ongoing, traveled to Dhaandhoo. 

The positive cases include two from Dhaandhoo and one from Vilingili. Both islands have been placed under monitoring mechanisms. The three individuals are all from the island of Dhaandhoo with one currently located in Vilingili. 

The first case of the virus in Dhevvadhoo was identified on December 24 from an individual in home-quarantine. Total cases connected to the Dhevvadhoo cluster number 30, with 24 from the island alone. Four cases were identified from L. Fonadhoo while two cases were identified from Hulhumale’. 

The cluster has grown once again with the three new cases. One of them is currently in Vilingili. Contact tracing efforts are still underway. 

Sources have stated that the positive cases from Dhaandhoo include a nine-year-old child and a 20-year old female. The positive case identified from Villingili is an 18-year old female student of the G. A. Atoll Education Center. She is a contact of the positive cases from Dhaandhoo. 

Contacts of the cases are around 20, according to Dhaandhoo Council President Ismail Mohamed. The positive cases from the island were in contact with an individual from Dhevvadhoo on December 30. People have traveled from Dhaandhoo to neighboring islands regularly before the monitoring order placed on the island, according to the Council President.
