Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contacted to develop a regional port in G. Dh. Thinadhoo.

The contract for the project was signed by MTCC’s Managing Director Adam Azim and Maldives Ports Limited (MPL)’s CEO Shahid Ali on Tuesday evening.

The port will be developed in a 108,000 square foot area allocated in Thinadhoo.

The project involves dredging a 4,500 cubic meter area in the lagoon, leveling the ground in the area, installing a security fence and a smart water drainage system.

The project was contracted to MTCC for MVR 15 million.

MPL has stated that work under the second phase of the project – which includes constructing warehouses and an administrative building – will be assigned to MTCC within the coming two weeks.

MTCC’s Managing Director Adam Azim has stated the company expects to complete work on the port within 45 days.

MVR 3.36 million has been allocated in the 2021 state budget to commence operations at the Thinadhoo port.
