Record breaking day for Maldives with 4,567 tourist arrivals

Tourism Minister Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has hailed yesterday as yet another record-breaking day in terms of tourist arrivals to the Maldives since the nation reopened its borders.

The Minister said that the Maldives had recorded 4,567 tourists yesterday alone. The Minister also thanked industry partners in the resurge of the industry after COVID-19. 

The Maldives closed its borders on March 27, due to COVID-19 and only reopened them in mid-July. Tourist numbers have been increasing steadily since then. 

Some industry stakeholders have even stated that tourist establishments could be overbooked within the next few days.

Since reopening its borders, the Maldives has received a total of 122,245 tourists. The grand total for 2020 is 505,092. 

Currently, there are 138 resorts/marinas, nine hotels, 129 safaris, and a 182 guesthouses in operation across the nation.
