The Parliament’s secretariat has clarified that it was MP for Dhangethi Mohamed Nazim who had voted using his own system during a parliament vote, after allegations surfaced that another parliamentarian had used the system to vote.

The vote in question was regarding the bill to create a utility authority named “Utility Regulatory Authority Bill” which was held on November 23. MP Nazim had taken part in the vote but was nowhere to be seen in the parliament house raising questions.

Speaker Mohamed Nasheed had expressed despair over the fact that the system had registered a vote despite the absence of the MP and said that the matter would be looked into.

Parliament’s Media Director Hassan Ziyau said to Sun today that when questioned MP Nazim had clarified that he had left the parliament after voting. Ziyau went on to clarify that the administrative desk and the Speaker was also unaware that the MP had left the house.
