Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that preparations are underway to hand over housing units built under the Hiyaa Project in suburban Hulhumale’ in March next year.

The Hiyaa Project consists of 6,720 units. Construction work is complete, while work on water and electricity services remains in progress.

HDC’s Managing Director Suhail Ahmed told Sun on Thursday that as previously planned, all outstanding work on the project will be completed in February.

“The work will be complete in February and the handover of units will begin in March,” he said.

The units will be handed over without tiles, doors or fan and light fixtures. HDC has announced it will free rent for a specific period so tenants can get the work done.

Suhail said that HDC has yet to finalize the duration it will free rent for, but that the corporation will provide “sufficient time” to get the work done.

In a press conference in July, Housing Minister Mohamed Aslam said the installation of water meters at the Hiyaa units will take eight months.

The establishment of water and electricity services at the units is being carried out by Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) and State Electric Company (STELCO).

The Hiyaa project was contracted to a Chinese company for USD 430 million during former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s administration. 16 25-storey towers have been built under the project.
