The Parliament has approved a budget allocation of MVR 80.7 million for the Auditor General’s Office for the coming year.
The MVR 80.7 million budget approved for 2021 exceeds the MVR 47.9 million budget for 2020 by MVR 33.8 million.
The Auditor General’s Office had originally requested a budget allocation of MVR 104.8 million for 2021, but the amount was cut by MVR 23 million by the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee during the review process.
The Parliament passed the budget allocation of MVR 80.7 million for the Auditor General’s Office, as passed by the Public Accounts Committee, with the vote of 54 during the sitting on Wednesday afternoon.
The MVR 80.7 million budget includes MVR 56.7 million for recurrent expenditure and MVR 25 million for public sector investment projects.
The budget also includes MVR 795,000 as salaries and allowances for Auditor General Hassan Ziyath, which amounts to MVR 61,250 per month.
