COVID-19: 9 children, 5 staffers at Fiyavathi test positive

Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) has announced that nine children and five staffers at Fiyavathi, a children’s shelter located in suburban Hulhumale’, have tested positive for COVID-19.

In a press conference on Wednesday night, HEOC spokesperson and epidemiologist Dr. Nazla Rafeeq said that the first person with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 from Fiyavathi was identified on September 30 – a staffer in charge of caring for the children.

The staffer was tested, and the results were confirmed as positive the next day, October 1.

Nazla said that following the case, health officials isolated 54 contacts and tested 19 contacts.

Nine children and five staffers have tested positive so far.

Those who tested positive have been moved to quarantine facilities.

Nazla said that the situation at the Fiyavathi remains good, despite the cases. She said that the situation at the shelter is being closely monitored by health officials.
