Speaker of the Parliament and leader of MDP Mohamed Nasheed has said that the Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has his full confidence.
Nasheed’s statements come after a motion calling for a vote of no confidence in the Minister was scheduled for proposal to the Parliament.
“For surely, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid has my full support.” Said Speaker Nasheed in a tweet.
Speaking with Sun, DRP leader and MP for Kaashidhoo Abdulla Jabir, who proposed the vote of no confidence, said that Shahid’s foreign policy had failed and that the Minister had to be held responsible for it. Jabir also accused that equal ties with countries could not be established because of Shahid, which is why he was proposing the vote of no confidence.
Jabir said that the vote of no confidence would be proposed in the parliamentary sitting on Monday. For a vote of no confidence against a Minister, the signature of a minimum of ten MPs is required. It should also be noted that Shahid is a long term member of the main governing party of the administration MDP.
Recently, it was reported that Speaker Nasheed and some members of MDP were also working to collect signatures for a vote of no confidence against Economic Minister Fayyaz Ismail.
