Judicial Services Commission (JSC) has revised its earlier announcement seeking a judge for Criminal Court, announcing on Sunday that it is now looking for two judges for the court.

The vacancies were left in the wake of the resignation of Judge Hassan Najeeb on July 6, and the resignation of former Chief Judge Ahmed Hailam on December 3 in face of a no-confidence motion at the Parliament.

JSC issued a vacancy announcement for Criminal Court on Thursday.

JSC issued a second vacancy announcement this Sunday, revising its previous announcement, and stating that it is now seeking two judges to fill the vacancies.

Applications for the positions will remain open until 02:00 pm on August 16.

Criminal Court’s judges receive a monthly salary and allowance package of MVR 48,300. They are also entitled to medical insurance and a phone allowance as determined by the Parliament under the Judges Act.

As JSC seeks to fill the two vacancies at the Criminal Court, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has nominated the court’s Acting Chief Judge Ali Rasheed to the Supreme Court bench, and has asked for counsel from the commission regarding the nomination.
