Parliament’s Social Affairs Committee has announced the decision to initiate a review of Health Ministry’s public health response to the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement on Thursday, the Social Affairs Committee said it will identify and review  how Health Ministry conducted work on matters pertaining to public health in response to the coronavirus pandemic , how it is currently conducting the work, and how it plans to conduct the work in the future.

Social Affairs Committee’s administrative desk has begun work on obtaining the necessary documents to conduct the review.

Meanwhile, the Social Affairs Committee is also set to conduct meetings with medical doctors, Health Protection Agency (HPA) officials, Health Emergency Operations Center (HEOC) officials, and officials who have served as the Director General of Public Health and as Health Minister over the last 50 years.

Social Affairs Committee will also meet with officials from relevant non-governmental organizations, health centers, regional hospitals, and other stakeholders.

The review comes amid criticism against the government by opposition politicians, accusing the Health Ministry of incurring unnecessary expenses during the public health crisis.
