President partakes flag hoisting ceremony for Independence Day

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih today, took part in the special flag hoisting ceremony in Male’ City for the Independence Day celebrations. 

The ceremony was held at 6:00 in the morning and the President was greeted by Defense Minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and Home Minister Imran Abdulla.

A special du’a was also recited at the ceremony and was led by the imam of Masjid Al-Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanul Auzam, Imam Nasrullah Ali.

The President was joined at the ceremony by Vice President Faisal Naseem as well as other senior government officials.

Festivities usually synonymous with The Independence Day will not be held this year due to COVID-19. Independence Day is the most celebrated day in the Maldives and marks the signing of the independence agreement by the Maldives with the British government on July 26, 1965. This is the 55th Independence Day of the Maldives.

Apart from the flag hoisting ceremony, the President is currently addressing the nation.
