Teachers' Association, on Saturday, voiced concern over lack of opportunity awarded to the association to provide its input on the Education Bill under the review of Parliament’s National Development and Heritage Committee.
National Development and Heritage Committee had opened opportunity for public opinion regarding the Education Bill in June, and hosted a public forum on the legislature last week.
In a tweet on Saturday morning, the Teachers Association said that it was not provided the opportunity to consult during the committee review.
The association said that teachers have concerns over some of the provisions of the Education Bill, and has submitted a letter to the President highlighting the concerns.
The Education Bill was drafted by the government and sponsored by South Fuvahmulah MP Mohamed Mumthaz.
The Education Bill is designed to establish the legal framework to improve the effectiveness of the deliverance of the constitutional right to education.
The bill declares the fundamental principles of the national education system, the educational rights of children, the responsibilities of parents, guardians, teachers and the state, and other standards and policies governing the national education system.
