Maldives saw 212 arrivals yesterday, highest no. of tourists from Turkey

As the country welcomed its first tourists in more than three months, Maldives Immigration has announced that 212 tourists arrived in the Maldives yesterday alone.

Statistics by Immigration showed that 104 tourists, 38 locals, and 65 foreign workers arrived in the Maldives yesterday. 

The highest number of tourists arrived from Turkey and the US. A total of 14 tourists arrived from Turkey while 12 arrived from the US. Nine tourists from the Netherlands as well as eight from Germany and seven from Switzerland arrived in the Maldives yesterday. 

The first flight to arrive in the country after the official reopening of borders was a Qatar Airways flight. A SriLankan Airways flight also landed in the Maldives later on in the day. 

Etihad Airways and Emirates are also expected to recommence flights to the Maldives soon. An Emirates flight is expected to arrive today.

Flights that will begin operations in August include Gulf Air, British Airways, Hong Kong Airlines, Silk Air, Indigo, Singapore Airlines, and Sri Lankan.

Edelweiss is set to operate to the Maldives in September while Turkish Air is set to begin operations in the following month.
