Two teachers and two students of the Rehendhi School in Hulhumale have tested positive for COVID-19. However, it is confirmed that the students and teachers refrained from attending the school since the closure of schools in the early days of the community spread in the capital.
Sun has learned from sources that the two teachers and students had not attended school since March. They tested positive on Friday and it was affirmed that they were not infected from within the school.
Sources stated that the two students that tested positive were students of lower grades. Schools have not been commenced for students in the lower grades yet.
One of the teachers that tested positive is a pre-school teacher who also did not attend the school. The remaining teacher is a grade seven teacher.
The individual did attend the school but had not come into contact with any students since students of grade seven were also not attending schools yet.
The students tested positive after members of their family tested positive for the virus.
Schools in Male’ City were recommenced for grades higher than 9, after several safety measures. They include temperature checks and social distancing. There are also mandatory rules and policies for wearing masks.
