MP alleges corruption in release of former VP Adeeb's release

An emergency issue has been presented to the Parliament regarding the release of the former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb by the Criminal Court yesterday. 

MDP Chairperson and West Henveiru MP Hassan Latheef presented the issue to the parliament whereby the circumstances of Adeeb‘s release by the Criminal Court was scrutinized for involving influence and corruption.

The Criminal Court released Adeeb yesterday after Judge Ismail Rasheed ruled that the seven charges brought against the former vice president were unlawful.

From the 26 MPs present in today’s parliamentary sitting, 22 voted in favor to review the matter presented in the issue. MP Hassan Latheef said that he had numerous questions as for the reason why the biggest scandal in the history of Maldives was dismissed from the court. 

MP Hassan Latheef also called on the parliament to present the allegations surrounding judge Ismail Rasheed to the Judicial Service Commission and to call on the state to appeal to Adeeb’s case.

Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has also said that the case of the Criminal Court judge would be presented to the JSC. He also announced that the PG would be appealing in the case of the former vice president.
