July 1, 2020: Ventilators imported by Medtech Maldives.

Medtech Maldives has imported 20 more ICU ventilators into the Maldives.

The company was awarded a contract to import 50 ventilators. 18 were imported on May 10.

The 20 ventilators imported were produced by the US company GE Healthcare and Swiss company IMT Medical. They are among the top companies approved by the US FDA in the production of medical equipment.

Out of the 20, two will be transported to the WHO office in the Maldives.

The remaining ventilators will be imported according to schedule, said the company.

Other than Medtech, contracts to import ventilators due to COVID-19 were awarded to NAAD Maldives and Executive General Trading of Dubai. The latter was awarded to import 75 ventilators.

So far, no ventilators have been imported by NAAD Maldives, while the Dubai based company has imported 10. The ventilators imported by Executive General Trading were not accepted by the Health Ministry due to failure to meet requirements.
