COVID-19: Positive Bangladeshi cases in Maldives exceed 1000

The number of Bangladeshi nationals that have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Maldives has surpassed 1000.

The number of Bangladeshi nationals that have tested positive currently stands at 1003. This is more than half the total number of positive cases in the country. The total number of cases is 1829.

A total of 590 locals have tested positive for the virus as well as 186 Indian nationals.

Other nationalities that have tested positive:

  • Nepalese: 23
  • Italian: 11
  • Sri Lankan: 9
  • Pakistan: 3
  • Others: 4

A total of 29 Bangladeshi nationals tested positive for the virus today alone. They include four that doesn’t belong to any previously identified clusters. Three Bangladeshi nationals have also passed away from the virus in the Maldives. The most recent fatality was reported in the afternoon today.

Most of the migrant workers in the Maldives live in congested and unhygienic living quarters due to different reasons. Authorities have been moving such individuals to state-sponsored facilities to curb the spread of the virus in the country.
