Parliament to request investigation of false accusations at Speaker Nasheed

The Parliament has decided to lodge a case with Police regarding false accusations leveled at the Speaker of the Parliament during an interview.

A statement by the Parliament issued tonight read that an individual from the island of R. Angolhitheemu had made false accusations against the Speaker, a matter that the parliament will be requesting the Prosecutor General to investigate.

The Speaker had also requested to investigate the media that broadcast the interview, read the statement by the Parliament.

The interviewee had falsely accused the Speaker of remarking demeaning words regarding the Prophet Muhammed (SAW), read the statement.

An act that undermines the religious solidarity of the country and creates enmity and divisions among citizens is a class one felony under Article 617, Section (A), subsection (5) of the Penal Code.

The Speaker also saw that the act of false accusations directed towards him during the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan was a way of portraying that a spilling of blood to which he was the subject of, was permissible.
