Maldives Police Service, on Sunday, arrested two people who rowed to Kulhudhuffushi City from H. Dh. Kurinbi in violating of the travel ban in effect to curb the spread of COVID-19.
The two did not have the necessary permit which is required to travel between Maldivian islands while the travel ban is in effect, and had made their way to Kulhudhuffushi on a canoe.
According to the police, the two people were arrested from outside the Kulhudhuffushi airport at approximately 11:30 pm.
They were identified as a 28-year-old Maldivian male and a 21-year-old Maldivian male.
The case is under further investigation by the police.
The incident had come with Kulhudhuffushi under lockdown after a H. A. Uligan resident who tested positive for COVID-19 was found to have disembarked at the city on his way back to his island from Male’, and had contact with a number of the city’s residence.
