South Korean assistance sought by Maldives in virus fight

The government of Maldives has made a request of assistance to South Korea to control the situation with COVID-19 in the country.

Foreign Minister of Maldives Abdulla Shahid made the appeal to his South Korean counterpart, Kang Kyung-Wha in a phone call yesterday. The Minister shared details with the South Korean Foreign Minister on current efforts by the Maldives against the virus in addition to the economic impact of the virus on the Maldives which is heavily dependent on import and tourism.

The Foreign Minister requested the assistance of South Korea if the Maldives was faced with a situation of emergency before noting the assistance being received from South Korea in recent years. Minister Shahid and Minister Kyung-Wha also discussed on international advancements through cooperation.
